Presidential Address from the Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy

On behalf of all members of the Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy (JSDT), it is my pleasure to announce that JSDT will participate to publish Therapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis with International Society for Apheresis (ISFA) and Japanese Society for Apheresis (JSFA). Therapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis will be an official English Language Journal of JSDT as well as ISFA and JSFA.

The membership of the Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy has long awaited an opportunity for publishing an international journal but the desire was not realized.  As a result, members were forced to submit their manuscripts to alternative society journals and periodicals.  Now, with this optimal vehicle, Japanese dialysis researchers now have a great opportunity to publish their study results and it will enable us to pronounce the outcome of our study globally.  I strongly expect that it will also contribute to the betterment of dialysis and blood purification therapy in the world.  Although the quality of dialysis therapy in Japan is worth being proud of, we could not disclose precise data globally due to the fact that statistical dialysis-related data was only available in Japanese.

We now are able to distribute information about dialysis therapy in Japan to other regions of the world by presenting Japanese statistical data through this English Language Journal; thus, others may have better understanding of the dialysis situation in Japan.

I would like to express my sincere regard to Dr. Paul S. Malchesky, the president of the International Society for Apheresis, for giving us this opportunity and I also appreciate the vast effort made by the editors of this Journal.

I am eager to see all of the members join me in congratulating the launch of this Journal.

Hidemune Naito

President
