SUMS accepted two radiological technologists from Cho Ray
Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, and provided them with technical training
in the Radiology Department of our hospital for 41 days from April 1 till May
11, 2007. This follows two similar training visits from Viet Nam; one in April
2006, and another in November 2006.
The training visits were conducted by
SUMS at the request of JICA as one of their Grassroots Technical Cooperation
Projects (support and cooperation in medical technology for clinical radiology
technologists). The objective is to instruct personnel in the correct usage of
radiology apparatus, in Viet Nam and in Japan, with a particular view to minimizing
unnecessary radiation exposure to patients and personnel during treatments.
SUMS participation in the training project received favorable coverage by
several print and broadcast media organizations.
Here are comments from the two
trainees:
One trainee said that he would like to improve radiation medicine
in Viet Nam through increased safety awareness education related to radiation
treatments, and he expressed the need of more for more radiology apparatus in
his own country.
The other trainee said that he would focus on protecting
both patients and clinical personnel against radiation accidents.
