An article published in The Lancet in 1993 on gastric MALT-lymphoma,
which could be cured by elimination of Helicobacter pylori, by Prof Manfred Stolte
in the Pathology Department of the Municipal Hospital in Bayreuth, Germany, shocked
the world. Prof. Stolte has conducted many collaborative research projects with
researchers in SUMS at his institution, has co-authored papers with our researchers,
and collaborated on international conference papers. Prof. Stolte has also made
a remarkable contribution to enabling our young researchers to study in Germany.
For these reasons, Shiga University of Medical Science has conferred an Honorary
Doctorate Degree on Prof. Stolte, on June 18th, 2007.
