A special conferment ceremony for Honorary Doctorate was held in the main conference room of the administration building on November 2, 2007. (Honorary Doctorates are awarded to persons who have been involved in the development of academic culture and international academic exchange, and who have made a great contribution to research and education at Shiga University of Medical Science.)

On this occasion, Professor Yang BaoFeng, President of Harbin Medical University, China, was conferred an honorary doctorate, in recognition of his contributions to our friendly international cooperations and medical education. Prof. Yang received a diploma and a commemorative gift, from President Ryuichi Kikkawa. President Yang was accompanied by Professor Zhou Jin, Dean of The First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, Professor Lu Yanyie, Professor of the Pharmacology Department, and as an interpreter, Mr. Ma Lian Yin, Director of Japan China Medical Communication Center, Tokyo.

Following the ceremony, Prof. Yang gave a lecture entitled “Research on Novel Targets Regulating Cardiac Ischemic Arrhythmias” which led to an active question-and-answer session. There was a celebration party in the previous evening at Biwako Hotel hosted by the president.
