On the 3rd and 4th of November, 2011, the excursion to Aichi and Shizuoka for the overseas students and researchers was held. Its theme was “Let’s go and see Mt. Fuji!”
A total of 23 people participated into this bus tour, led by Vice-President Hattori and Professor Aiura: the Director of the International Liaison Office.
On the first day, they visited SCMaglev and Railway Park, a newly-opened museum by JR Tokai in Nagoya, and Tokaido-Hiroshige Museum in Shizuoka. At the hotel in Miho, they enjoyed soaking in a Japanese hot spring and had a good time singing “Fuji no yama” together at the convivial evening party.
On the second day, they climbed up Nihon-daira to enjoy the view of Mt. Fuji. Unfortunately, it was hazy a little bit because of unseasonable hotness, but they could still see it. Then, they visited Yaizu Sakana Center (sea food industrial park) to have a tour and do shopping. On the way back to Shiga, they experienced picking oranges in Gamagori Orange Park.
According to the questionnaires for the former overseas students, many of them had opinions that they would like to go and see Mt. Fuji. That is why this excursion was arranged, following the “Tokaido [East sea road],” the most important of the Five Routes of the Edo period.
