On the first and second of November, 2013, an excursion to Ise and Toba (Mie prefecture) for the overseas students, researchers and their families was held. A total of 37 people participated in this bus tour, led by Vice-President Hattori and Professor Aiura, the Director of the International Liaison Office.

On the first day, they visited Ise Jingu Shrine; Geku (the outer shrine) and Naiku (the inner shrine). They felt very refreshed and relaxed by the atmosphere with the limpid waters of the Isuzu River and lush greenery in the site of the Ise Jingu. Since the 62nd Shikinen Sengu (transferring deities to new shrine buildings every twenty years) was carried out this year, they had a chance to see the both of new and old shrine buildings next to each other. Also, they visited Meoto-iwa, paired crags in the Futamigaura inlet, a site for purification. In the evening, they had a good time at a get-together, enjoying performances of singing by participants.

On the second day, they went to Mikimoto Pearl Island to see a diving demonstration by “ama” (women divers) and to visit the Pearl Museum. Then they visited Toba Aquarium and enjoyed various exhibitions including an amusing show performed by sea lions.

Participants could strengthen their friendship further through this excursion and they were very satisfied with the fruitful two days.
