The beginning of the cooperative relationship between SUMS and the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Indonesia (UI) was receiving Dr. Prasetya from UI in 2011, when he came to study at SUMS’s Neurosurgery Department under the mentorship of Professor Nozaki for one year. Last summer, Professor Nozaki was invited to UI and its newly opened National Brain Center Hospital to conduct clinical training in the area of neurosurgery. Since then, he has provided guidance via teleconferencing. On February 11, 2014, Professor Nozaki, Dr. Fukami and Dr. Takagi visited the Faculty of Medicine, UI and provided guidance and coaching. Such active relations have led to this implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two universities.

On February 13, 2014, President Bamba and Professor Aiura, Director of the International Liaison Office, left Japan to visit UI and attend a signing ceremony with Professor Nozaki. That afternoon, President Bamba and Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M. Met., Acting Rector of UI, signed the MOU for academic cooperative agreement.
