Our former president, Prof. Tadao Bamba was conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Medical Science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (the National University of Malaysia: UKM) which has a cooperative agreement with SUMS, in a commencement ceremony held at UKM (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) on November 1. Professor Bamba has been recognized for his notable contributions to the initiation and development of academic cooperation between UKM and SUMS.

There were three honorees this year at UKM, and Professor Bamba was the only one in Medical Science and also the only foreign honoree. The ceremony was part of an enormous graduation ceremony at UKM where Professor Bamba made an honoree acceptance speech in English in front of an audience of about twenty-five hundred.
