The Graduate School of Medicine
consists of the Doctoral Program of Medicine and the Master's Program of Nursing.
In principle, admission to both courses is at the beginning of the academic year
(April). The system of day and evening open courses is implemented. Since most
classes are conducted in Japanese, a sufficient mastery of Japanese language
is essential for admission. |

1. Master's
Program of Nursing |
| |
The aim of this program is to educate students to
be experts in nursing who have highly advanced knowledge and professional skills
for sophisticated nursing care services, making the use of our educational research
resources (the accumulated wisdom and experiences at the faculty, the university
hospital and the affiliated facilities), in order to respond adequately to the
various requests regarding today's health problem.
After having received the
required number of credits with at least two years of study, having completed
an acceptable Master's thesis with the necessary research instructions, and passing
the final examinations, the student is awarded a Master's degree. |

2. Doctoral
Program of Medicine |
| |
The aim of this program is to educate students to
be great researchers in the field of medicine who have the sophisticated ability
to research creatively and independently and also who have wide scholarship and
well-rounded character. The mission of this program is to contribute to the development
of medical science and the improvement of social welfare. |

Requirements for Admission |

|
| |
Applicants for admission to the Graduate School of Medicine must satisfy one of the conditions shown below, or must be expected to satisfy one by March 31st of the year of their admission.(contact SUMS admissions office for details) |

1. Master's
Program (Master's Program of Nursing) |
| |
| (1) |
Graduation from a university |
| (2) |
Receipt of a bachelor’s degree |
| (3) |
Completion of sixteen years of school education abroad |
| (4) |
Recognition by the Graduate School as having an ability equivalent or superior to a university graduate in their individual qualification screening process, and are at least 22 years of age |

2. Doctoral
Program (Doctoral Program of Medicine) |

| (1) |
Graduation from a university in a course of medicine, dentistry, or six-year course of veterinary medicine |
| (2) |
Completion of eighteen years of school education abroad including the completion of a course of medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine |
| (3) |
Recognition by the Graduate School in their individual qualification screening process as being equal or superior to a university graduate in the course of medicine, dentistry or the six-year course of veterinary medicine, and being at least 24 years of age |

Applicants must take the Graduate School entrance examinations. Foreign applicants to the Master's Program must take the same entrance examinations as are given to Japanese applicants. The entrance examinations of the Doctoral Program are also the same for all applicants. However, only regarding the Doctoral Program examination, it is possible to take in English as well as in Japanese. The selection is made by means of written examinations, an interview, submitted documents. The selection may differ slightly according to the program.
